Lucknow | In a major breakthrough, the Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF) has busted an organised inter-state vehicle fraud gang involved in tampering with truck engine and chassis numbers and preparing forged documents for illegal sale. The STF arrested three active members of the gang, dealing a significant blow to a large vehicle forgery network operating across multiple states.
The arrested accused have been identified as Vijay Shankar Mishra, Brijesh Kumar alias Vipin, and Jai Prakash Vishwakarma. During the operation, the STF recovered four trucks, one “Chhota Hathi” commercial vehicle, and several crucial forged documents that were being used for vehicle theft, illegal transfer and resale.
According to STF officials, the gang specialised in giving stolen or suspicious vehicles a new identity by altering engine and chassis numbers. Fake registration certificates, insurance papers and other documents were then prepared, enabling the vehicles to be sold across different states without raising suspicion. The STF had been tracking the gang for a long time based on intelligence inputs.
The three accused were caught red-handed from Mufeed’s garage located on Sultanpur Bypass Road under Kotwali Dehat police station area in Sultanpur district. Preliminary interrogation has revealed possible links to several more individuals, indicating that the network may be larger than initially believed.
STF officials said that technical verification of the recovered vehicles and documents is currently underway and efforts are being made to connect all operational links of the gang. Further arrests are likely as the investigation progresses.
The successful operation underscores the STF’s continued crackdown on organised crime and vehicle-related fraud in Uttar Pradesh, reinforcing its commitment to dismantling criminal networks operating within and beyond the state.
